Life & Productivity

Life & Productivity 〰️

We were exhausted.

Picture this: It was a Sunday night. We sat on our couch looking at each other in silence. I was coming off a particularly hard week at work. I had been working over-time for a while and no matter how hard I tried, I felt like my plans were constantly changing and had to scramble every day just to stay on top of my to-do list. Our son had been sick that week, which had made daily life for Kayla much more challenging than normal. We were low on energy, low on money, and had just found out that we had our second baby on the way. We opened up about what we were feeling, fears we were worrying, and struggles we were facing. We found that we had three things in common:

  1. We had overstretched ourselves by saying “yes” when we probably should have just said “no.”

  2. We lacked clarity on what we should be prioritizing in our lives.

  3. We were losing enjoyment on the things that we used to love to do simply because we felt like we had no time or energy for them.

We were in a tough spot. We knew we had to make a change and try to regain control of our lives. Up until this point, we had always assumed that things would just eventually work out and we’d wake up one day to our ideal lives. That’s when we realized our mistake.

We were living in a very unintentional way, ruled by the tyranny of the urgent. Because of this scrambled daily life, we hadn’t been able to take a step back and figure out what we wanted to accomplish and where we wanted to be in the future.

We needed change.

The next few months began a process that we continue to work on every day. We decided together that we no longer wanted to get tossed by the “hum-drum” waves of daily life. We wanted to strategize, plan, and grow in the areas of life we really valued.

I wanted to be more involved in my kids’ lives, make time to prioritize my wife, and provide financially for my family. Kayla wanted to care and teach our kids as they grow up, keep our house under control (for all my readers with young kids, you understand…), and have enough energy to stay awake at the end of the day when I get home.

We knew that in order for us to be able to do these things, we couldn’t be passive in our lifestyle. We had to take the reins and really lean into the season of life that we found ourselves and push ourselves to prioritize the things we care about most.

We began to identify the things in our lives we wanted to improve. We making time together to plan our days, weeks, goals, and habits. And with some time, we realized that it started to work.

Your future starts with a Good Today.

I think our struggle is something most people relate to in our world today.

  • Maybe you’re over-stretched with work, commitments, or things that drain your energy.

  • Maybe you feel like you’re scrambling ever day to simply survive the onslaught of tasks coming out you each day.

  • Maybe you’re just looking to make some changes in your life to help you to re-emphasize the things that mean the most to you.

I think there’s a lot of wisdom in learning to harness the time we have each day to make the most of it. I’m not promising that every day is going to be a great one, but I do think that there’s something right in trying to live each day with purpose.

The Bible says “the steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” We believe that is true. We believe that we can let the future worry about itself, and we can make the most of every day we get to experience.

The Bible also says, “do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.” What would your life look like if you lived in the light of the day you find yourself, instead of daydreaming of the future when everything all your dreams come true?

We want to help you try.
