Quote:
“When framed correctly, asking for help makes the person you’re asking feel as good as the help makes you feel.” — Ali Abdaal, Feel-Good Productivity: How to Do More of What Matters to You
Admitting you need help can be tough. It takes humility. It takes trust. But, being able to say, “I can’t do ____ all on my own,” can not only connect you with people who will help, but it can also create relationships and help both people grow.
Idea:
Kayla and I started The Good Today Co. with no money to spend on it, very little time to dedicate to it, and a lack of experience in creating a business.
We quickly realized that we needed help.
Coincidentally, two of my buddies, Thomas and Ben, had been pushing their own start-ups for a few months when we started considering the GTC. I started talking to these guys and it INSTANTLY made a world of difference.
The three of us were in very different industries. Ben was in web development. Thomas had focused on creating video content for one of his hobbies, Disc Golf (click here if you want to check out his work). We were building a lifestyle brand for people trying to change their lives.
But each of us brought different skillsets to the conversations, and talking to these guys for an hour, I felt motivated, inspired, and ready to dive back into work.
I say all this because I’ve found that whenever I feel myself starting to feel “stuck,” if I can meet meet with someone who’s knowledgable about my problem and willing to help, I can make way more progress than if I tried to tackle it on my own.
Question:
If you’re feeling stuck, stagnant, or confused about what your next step is in life, my question for you this week is this: Who is one person that you could connect with week to humbly ask for input or advice?
It could be a friend like Ben or Thomas. It could be an older relative who has more life experience than you. It could be a neighbor, your favorite barista, or the manager of your favorite store.
I’ve frequently “cold-called” people and asked to meet up to talk business and I’m always surprised by how willing people are (normally) to meet up and talk.
We have a TROVE OF KNOWLEDGE all around us, we normally have to be humble enough to ask for it.
P.S. Speaking of cold-calls, if you want to reach out to us, hit us up by emailing us at goodtodayco@gmail.com, and we’ll figure out a time to Facetime.
